š„ Claude 3 Opus Takes Over as the Number 1 Chatbot
(Source)
It is now official what many have suspected for a longer time: Claude 3 Opus by Anthropic is surpassing GPT-4-1106 (=Turbo) on the Chatbot Leaderboard by Hugging Face.
I use Opus 99% of the time, as it has great factual knowledge and almost never hallucinates.
In addition, Amazon announced an additional $2.75 billion investment in Anthropic on top of its initial $1.25 billion, making it its largest outside investment in history.
Soon: Elon Muskās AI startup xAI has also announced the launch of Grok-1.5, the advanced AI model featuring enhanced reasoning abilities and a 128,000 token context length.
Lastly, if you have worked with ChatGPT, you know it overuses words like 'delve' or 'embark'. (You will find it in my past writing as well. Guilty!)
Interesting: Look below at how often the word 'delve' is used in papers on PubMed (2023 was the first full year of ChatGPT).
šļøāšØļø OpenAIās Voice Engine
OpenAI has built Voice Engine to generate custom voices, and it is crazy good.
Today, speaking to ChatGPT (via the phone) works quite well. They have made it faster, and ChatGPT understands pretty much everything you say.
Compared to Pi by Inflection AI (most of the team will join Microsoft with Mustafa Suleyman), ChatGPT's voice is slightly faster in responding but less versatile.
When I ask ChatGPT to speak in English with a Bavarian accent, it refuses, while Pi tries and succeeds to a degree.
OpenAI's new Voice Engine, which is not yet part of ChatGPT, is very powerful.
Voice Engine is already in limited release. OpenAI has shared a couple of stories with use cases and demo voices that are on par with humans speaking/reading out loud:
Providing reading assistance
Ed-company Age of Learning uses Voice Engine to generate pre-scripted voice-over content and real-time, personalized student interactions.
Translating content
HeyGen hosts human-like avatars for diverse content, e.g. presentations. It uses Voice Engine for video translation, reaching a global audience and preserving the native accent of the original storytelling pl speaker.
Reaching global communities
Dimagi develops tools for community health workers, offering services like breastfeeding counseling. Dimagi employs Voice Engine to offer interactive, multilingual feedback to community health workers, supporting languages from Swahili to Sheng.
Supporting people who are non-verbal
Livox's app enhances Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC) devices with unique, natural voices in multiple languages. This allows nonverbal individuals to communicate in a voice that consistently represents them across languages.
Helping patients recover their voice
The Norman Prince Neurosciences Institute at Lifespan uses Voice Engine to restore speech in patients with oncologic or neurologic impairments. Doctors restored a young patient's voice using a brief audio sample from a school project video.
